Palm Oil Impact

 

Definition: Palm oil plantations have several environmental and societal impacts, including deforestation, water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, working conditions, displacement and disruption of human(indigenous) and animal(particularly the Sumatran elephant, Sumatran tiger, Sumatran rhinoceros, and Sumatran orangutan) populations.

 

While there is an organization dedicated to the use of sustainable oil palm products--The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil(RSPO)--they have received much criticism over whether or not they are actually promoting what they say they are.
